April Cherrington
Mathematics Coordinator
San Mateo County Office of Education

April Cherrington has served as the Mathematics Coordinator at the County Office for the past eleven years. She has over twenty years of teaching experience 4th grade through college, most of which was at the middle school level in the San Mateo-Foster City School District. Her previous experience includes being a Mentor Teacher, Math Coach, Middle School Math Renaissance Cluster Leader, and Program Chair for the CMC-N Asilomar Conference. She has written math curriculum and professional development units, and has been a member of the Numeracy Project, Mathematics Adoption Toolkit, California Course of Study, and Common Core State Standards Joint Rollout teams. She is also the Region 4 Lead for the CISC-Math Subcommittee.

April believes that the work CAMTE has done to promote professional development for mathematics teachers at all levels is even more important now we transition to the Common Core State Standards. She is interested in working collaboratively with those doing professional development at district and county levels and those organizations doing teacher preparation, particularly as this relates to the elementary math specialist credentials.
