Peg Cagle Elected to the NCTM Board of Directors
Congratulations to Peg Cagle, who was elected to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Board of Directors in November! Peg joins fellow CAMTE member Mark Ellis on the NCTM Board. She is currently on leave from the Los Angeles Unified School District (Lawrence Gifted Magnet School) for a year to serve as an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow in Washington, D.C. She is one of four fellows placed on Capitol Hill and works in the office of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York. (Posted 12/2/11)

CAMTE Election Results are Announced!
Congratulations to CAMTE's newest officers! Margaret Kidd (top photo) will serve as President-Elect from 2011-2012, as President from 2012-2014, and as Past President from 2014-2015. April Cherrington will serve as Member at Large. The results of the recent election were announced on December 3, 2011, at the CAMTE Business Meeting, which was held during the CMC-North Conference at Asilomar. AMTE Preconference Session Focused on Middle School Mathematics Teacher Preparation
On 27 January 2011, Carol Fry Bohlin chaired a 3-hour AMTE preconference session entitled "Pathways to Middle School Mathematics Teaching in California: Concerns and Opportunities." Presentations were also given by CAMTE members Joanne Rossi Becker, Babette Benken, Jorgen Berglund, Mark Ellis, Davida Fischman, David Pugalee, and Felipe Razo. Update on New Mathematics Instructional Added Authorization (MIAA) and Mathematics Instructional Leadership Specialist (MILS) Credential
At its meeting on 28 January 2011, the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing heard from Commission staff regarding proposed amendments and additions to Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations pertaining to (a) the Mathematics Instructional Added Authorization (MIAA) and (b) the Mathematics Instructional Leadership Specialist (MILS) Credential. Proposed changes include updating the title, requirements, and instructional authorizations for the MILS Credential (originally the Mathematics Specialist Instruction Credential) and adding regulations and authorizations for the MIAA.
