As a service to the mathematics teacher education community, CAMTE and the California Mathematics Project are offering to assist programs that have questions regarding what needs to be done. The attached document CCSS M Transition Information for Math SMPPs describes the process and the other attachment, SSMP-Matrix-Math.doc is the matrix referred to in the information. Be sure not to overlook the example at the bottom of Page iii in that document regarding what needs to be included in the matrix:
Math course XXX, example from lecture,
Description of an assignment
Math course XXY, title of lecture, brief description of project
Math course XXE, lecture topic, description of an assignment, describe test item
The process includes the following:
1) Complete each cell of the matrix by naming at least one course where the requirement is met and briefly describing how it is met via an example from lecture, an assignment that is done, a project that is completed, and/or a test item.
2) Submit a list of all required mathematics courses for the subject matter program(s) with catalog-copy descriptions that include course titles and course numbers.
3) Submit a 2-3 page narrative of how your program is integrating the 8 Mathematical Practices in the overall program and in the coursework.
Eric Hsu created Subject_Matter_Requirement_Changes_for_CCSS.docx .
to illustrate the differences between what was required in 2009 and what is now required. It may help programs determine what needs to be created new and what former content can be used.
