After California's adoption of the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics, it followed that the CTC would need to adjust its Subject Matter Requirements (SMRs). That was done in June 2013. The next step is for previously-approved programs to make the transition to the new CCSS via the new SMRs. The two attached documents relate to the process.

On 6 November 2013, the California State Board of Educationadopted the MathematicsFramework for California Public Schools, the first state framework toincorporate the Common Core State Standards. The Framework provides grade-levelexplanations and examples of the Standards for Mathematical Practice andContent, integrating mathematical thinking and conceptual understanding withprocedural skills and applications.

All approved Mathematicssubject matter programs (programs that waive the CSET: Math) must review theircourses of study to ensure the programs are teaching the new subject matterrequirements (SMRs) essential to effectively teach students the new CaliforniaCommon Core State Standards (CCSS). Programs must be teaching the newSMRs this Fall (Fall 2013). In addition, programs must submit a newAlignment Matrix to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) by June 2014.Please do not revise courses to reflect the students’ CCSS.
